The discolorations of your teeth can be classified as extrinsic or intrinsic. Extrinsic stains appear on the surface of the tooth (enamel). Intrinsic stains are located between the prisms of enamel and are more deeply anchored in your dentin (the layer that is under your enamel). Whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes can clean some extrinsic stains, but only a whitening agent can remove all of the extrinsic stains and reach the intrinsic colorants that cause this color change.
Almost all contemporary whitening gels contain an active whitening ingredient (either carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) which penetrates through the enamel to affect the molecules responsible for the color change. The oxygen molecules in the whitening agents react with these color-changing molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. Oxygen molecules migrate into the teeth, whitening the entire tooth. Finally, you have a whiter, brighter smile.
The active ingredient (carbamide or hydrogen peroxide) penetrates through the enamel to reach the molecules responsible for the color change inside your teeth.
Oxygen molecules from the active ingredient break the bonds of the molecules responsible for the color change.
Oxygen molecules diffuse into the tooth to act on the whole of it.
Is whitening for everyone?
Teeth whitening is safe, and an easy way to get a whiter, brighter smile. Results and processing time may vary from person to person, depending on the starting color and the desired result. Crowns, bridges, and veneers cannot be bleached. A preliminary visit to your dentist is mandatory before any treatment and he can direct you to the best solution in relation to your wishes.
Will teeth whitening weaken my teeth?
The gels used at Dentistes Prisma contain potassium nitrate and fluoride. Together they improve oral health.

First option: dental whitening in the clinic:
The preferred technique at Derntistes Prisma uses a 40% hydrogen peroxide whitening gel, Opalescence Boost.
Thanks to a self-mixing system that will activate the whitening gel, no harmful ultra-violet light or laser that unduly heats the teeth is necessary. Opalescence Boost contains PF (Potassium Nitrate and Fluoride) which has been shown to reduce sensitivity, reduce susceptibility to cavities and improve enamel micro hardness.
Opalescence Boost 40% is perfect for patients who want whiter teeth immediately, as it gives visible results in 40 minutes. Convenient syringe-to-syringe chemical activation process ensures product freshness and frees patients from the discomfort of lamps or lasers. Studies show that it is the concentration or gel of peroxide used and the duration of application – not a light – that is responsible for the whitening result.
Second option: bleaching done at home:
Dentistes Prisma offers you a treatment with Tailor-made gutters for use at home with night wear. The gel exists in mint, melon or neutral version (without taste). The gel is used through a Tailor-Made gutter made in a dental office only.
A professional result at home!
Whitening gel is recommended for people who want to choose. With two different concentrations you can wear your custom-made aligners day or night. Prescribed only by a dentist, the whitening gel allows you to have a professional result in complete safety, efficiency and “tailor-made”.
Step 1
Load the gutter approximately half way outward. For this, 1/2 to 1/3 of a syringe is necessary per gutter.
2nd step
Insert the tray in the mouth and gently position it on the teeth. The wearing time depends on the concentration of your whitening gel.
Step 3
Remove the tray, brush your teeth with a soft bristle brush to remove the gel remaining on the teeth.
Step 4
Opalescence Go is the professional alternative for quick, effective, easy whitening at a lower cost. With a pleasant mint or melon flavor, it’s easy to start a whitening treatment with Opalescence Go or a simple touch-up of your smile. Immediate delivery of the product to your dentist after control and cleaning. No other additional steps. Opalescence Go is ready to use right out of the box!
Opalescence whitening gel contains PF (Potassium Nitrate and Fluroride). Potassium nitrate reduces sensitivity, fluoride blocks tubules and strengthens enamel. Together they help improve oral health.
